Henman upbeat ahead of Federer clash
The British number two's reward for beating compatriot Greg Rusedski in his delayed opening match at Flushing Meadows is a daunting date with the defending champion on Friday.
Scotland's Andy Murray, the 17th seed, will also be back in action as he takes on Italy's Alessio di Mauro.
Henman needed one hour 55 minutes to reach the second round, overcoming Rusedski 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-3 for his seventh successive win over his rival.
"It's as tough a test as you can have," said Henman of his next opponent. "But it depends which way you look at it - a tough draw or a great opportunity."
Henman made a shaky start when his match, postponed on Tuesday due to rain, finally got under way last night.
He fell 3-0 down in the opening set but rallied to come through comfortably, although he admitted Rusedski's hip problem had been a factor.
"Once I got a set up I felt my game got better and better," Henman said.
"As he loses a little bit of strength in his hip, he wasn't coming forward so much. I can exploit that a little bit more.
"Yeah, I think as the match wore on, he was obviously getting a bit sore."
Federer, seeking a third straight grand-slam title in New York, had little trouble seeing off Yeu-Tzuoo Wang of Taipei 6-4 6-1 6-0.
