Edinburgh drop Gunners from title

Edinburgh have a new logo
Edinburgh Rugby Ltd has officially dropped Gunners from its team name and they will revert back to being known as Edinburgh.
A club statement said there were a number of reasons for the change.

"One of which is that the word Gunners is already a registered Trademark of Arsenal Football Club," it said.

Edinburgh is the name by which the team was known back in 1872, when they played Glasgow in the world's first ever inter-district match.

The capital side won 3-0 that day and will hope for a repeat when the two cities meet again in the Magners League at Murrayfield on Friday evening.

Edinburgh have a new club badge to coincide with the name change.

Sale Sharks 34-26 Saracens

Hodgson booted 19 points to keep Sale on track
Sale 34 (19)
Tries: Taylor, Cueto, J Fernandez Lobbe
Cons: Hodgson (2)
Pens: Hodgson (5)

Saracens 26 (9)
Tries: Penney, Johnston, Jackson
Con: Jackson
Pens: Jackson (3)

Defending champions Sale defeated a battling Saracens side to move second behind Premiership leaders Wasps.

Charlie Hodgson's boot proved the difference between the two sides as both scored three tries apiece.

Mark Taylor, Mark Cueto and Argentine Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe scored for Sale with Rodd Penney, Ben Johnston and Glen Jackson touching down for Sarries.

Andy Farrell did not get the chance to face former Wigan team-mate Jason Robinson as he stayed on the bench.

Hodgson and Jackson traded penalties in the first half an hour before Taylor received the ball from Cueto and nipped over the line.

Saracen's lack of discipline let Cueto in after the break as the England winger skipped over with Cobus Visagie and Matt Cairns in the sin bin.

But Sarries refused to lie down with Penney touching down after 52 minutes before Johnston, who also had a spell in the sin bin, gliding over down the centre channel.

Jackson could only convert one of the three tries and Fernandez Lobbe muscled his way over from close range to restore Sale's advantage.

Jackson went some way to making amends with a try in the corner in the dying minutes but a fifth penalty from Hodgson made victory for Sale safe.

Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre:
"I am pleased with the win and that Saracens did not get a bonus point, but I think they deserved something.
"We were OK going forward for 50 to 55 minutes but after that we switched off completely.

"We looked shaky in defence and we need to be much better because we did not close the game out."

Saracens director of rugby Alan Gaffney:
"We dug in, but our ill-discipline let us down again. We gave away too many penalties.
"Three guys getting binned does put a bit of pressure on you.

"That obviously changed in the second half when we had a crack at them. We played a lot better then."

Worcester 13-25 Sale

Worcester made life hard for Sale
Worcester: (3) 13
Try: Havili
Con: Drahm
Pens: Drahm 2

Sale: (15) 25
Tries: Bell, White, Cueto
Cons: Hodgson 2
Pens: Hodgson 2

Sale survived a ferocious second-half comeback from Worcester to inflict a third straight defeat on the Warriors.

They were 8-0 up via a Charlie Hodgson penalty and Chris Bell's try before Shane Drahm got Worcester on the board.

But Jason White rumbled over for the Sharks' second and a Hodgson penalty gave them a 15-3 half-time lead.

A converted try from Aisea Havili and another Drahm penalty brought the hosts within two points but Hodgson's second penalty and a Mark Cueto try sealed it.

Victory took Sale level on points with early pace-setters Gloucester and Wasps at the top of the Premiership, at least until the leaders play this weekend.

Worcester remain at the foot of the table after a third straight loss, but they can take heart from pushing the champions all the way in an absorbing encounter.

Sale knew they were in a punishing physical battle but oozed class at crucial times, with England wing Cueto ending the hosts' resistance by touching down five minutes from time.

Earlier Hodgson's expertly-placed kick saw Bell react quickest to claim their opener, while a trademark charge from England prop Andrew Sheridan paved the way for White's second.

But Havili showed strength to touch down wide out and when Sale lock Chris Jones collected his second yellow card of the season for halting a Worcester attack illegally, Drahm's second penalty ensured a nervous finale.
